Organic Sleep! It's a Thing.

In this Practical Nontoxic Living™ episode, Sophia sits down with Kristen Rannala, mother of 3 & founder of Organique-- a cutting-edge, completely organic mattress company based out of California.

It's tempting to overlook mattresses in our quest for good health. They're expensive, hard to get in and out of our homes, and especially, when it comes to crib and children's mattresses-- we only need them for a few years anyway. Why spend so much on such a fleeting cause?

Well, adults spend ONE THIRD of our lives sleeping, and children spend HALF their lives sleeping. The environment we sleep in contributes significantly to our overall health.

Conventional mattresses often contain harmful chemicals like polyurethane, as well as petrochemicals like polyester, plastics and vinyls that are linked to serious health issues, including cancer.

And Memory foam?

Ugh.

On page 260 of A to Z of D-Toxing, Sophia writes,

"Organic mattress maker Walter Bader sent a popular memory foam mattress to a lab for analysis. Sixty-one different volatile organic compounds (VOC's) were identified, with the mattress emitting 7,958 micrograms per unit hour in the first four hours."

We KNOW how depressing this is, especially to those of us who just spent way too much money on a "good" mattress. Been there, (sadly) done that.

This episode contains everything you need to know about what you're sleeping on-- & if you're in the market for a new mattress, we hope this podcast helps your journey towards healthier sleep!
