Sophia's Household Staples

While learning about my family's toxic exposures, I often wished someone would just tell me what to buy. Since I never found that resource from a holistic, informed perspective, I was inspired to create this section. This section shares my home's key staples, which reflects my research into the products' safety (in terms of human health) and effectiveness.

Cleaning Ingredients

Dr. Bronner's Castile Liquid Soap

I love that this is multipurpose: I use this to clean dishes, hands, and surface areas at home (like kitchen countertops). It receives an 'A' rating from the Environmental Working Group for its risk to human and environmental health.

SHOP
Sal Suds

I use this as laundry detergent. It can also be used to clean around the home, but do not use it to bathe bodies. It receives an 'A' rating from the Environmental Working Group for its risk to human and environmental health.

SHOP
Baking Soda

Baking soda helps with many cleaning and personal care needs. With laundry, I add it to the washing machine for extra cleaning and deodorizing. In the refrigerator, it helps minimize odors. And with baths, it helps detox. It receives an 'A' rating from the Environmental Working Group for its risk to human and environmental health.

SHOP
Hydrogen Peroxide

Ideally, "food grade" hydrogen peroxide should be "cleaner" of chemicals because "food grade" should be free of chemicals used as stabilizers. However, 3% hydrogen peroxide (like in the example in the image above) is often easier to find in your local grocery store or pharmacy.

SHOP
Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

"Food grade" hydrogen peroxide should be free of added stabilizers.

SHOP
White Vinegar

I use this to clean surface areas. Be careful on natural woods, and avoid on natural stone (like marble).

SHOP
Cleaning Vinegar

Stronger than conventional white vinegar, cleaning vinegar is great for cleaning tough stains and odors, like in bathrooms. It receives an 'A' rating from the Environmental Working Group for its risk to human and environmental health.

SHOP
doTerra Essential Oils

I use essential oils for cleaning, healing, and self care. Lemon oil and fractionated coconut oil are great for cleaning / polishing / moisturizing wood surfaces. A drop of lemon oil in warm water is great first thing in the morning. Lavender and peppermint oils are also great for cleaning, and for soothing mosquito bites. Lavender soothes various skin issues. I also add peppermint oil into smoothies.
