Inside the 40-Day Home Detox™

If you have moved through the LOLA POP™ Detox Method email series, you have experienced how natural and practical the method can feel—and how you can reduce toxic exposures in ways you don’t mind pursuing.

The rest of this page is what the program looks like from the inside. The structure of the forty days. The scheduling logistics. The contents of the playbook you’ll build. What’s in the kit. What it costs. What happens if your circumstances change.

The 40-Day Arc—Day by Day

The program is organized in three stages across forty consecutive days. The stages and the LOLA POP™ Detox Method are described in full on the program introduction page. What follows is the operational structure.

Discover

Day 1

Establish your baseline. Workbook exercises bring unconscious routines into view. Kickoff session with Sophia occurs in this window.

Detox

Days 2 through 31

Thirty days applying the LOLA POP™ Detox Method to the six Household Repeat Offenders™ the program targets—cleaning products, self-care products, fragranced products, resistant chemicals, colored products, and plastics—in the order that matters most. Midpoint session with Sophia occurs around Day 16.

Design

Days 32 through 40

Nine days of integration with six masterclass experts. Translate what you’ve learned into your personalized Practical Nontoxic Living™ playbook. Completion session with Sophia occurs at the end of this window.

Hosting Lots of Bad Company

Household Repeat Offenders™

Household Repeat Offenders™ are the categories of products, materials, and routines that most consistently shape toxic exposures over time. The concept and the full framework are introduced on the program introduction page.

During the program's 30-day Detox stage, the LOLA POP™ Detox Method is applied to six of the most common Household Repeat Offenders™—in the order that matters most. What follows is what happens in each.

Cleaning Products

HOUSEHOLD REPEAT OFFENDER 1

Cleaning products are a common source of volatile organic compounds, synthetic fragrance, and surfactants in indoor air. The LOLA POP™ Detox Method guides you to examine the products already in your home, recognize toxic patterns, and find safer alternatives that perform reliably in everyday use.

Self-Care Products

HOUSEHOLD REPEAT OFFENDER 2

Beauty and personal care products often include ingredients such as synthetic fragrance, parabens, and phthalates. Because these products are applied regularly to skin, some of their ingredients can contribute to body burden. Using the LOLA POP™ Detox Method, you review what you already use, recognize toxic patterns, and explore safer alternatives aligned with your preferences.

Fragranced Products

HOUSEHOLD REPEAT OFFENDER 3

Fragranced products—air fresheners, scented candles, laundry detergents, plug-ins—shape the sensory experience of a home and can also include compounds that are not disclosed on labels. The LOLA POP™ Detox Method helps you identify the fragranced products most worth re-examining and introduces safer alternatives.

Resistant Chemicals

HOUSEHOLD REPEAT OFFENDER 4

Many household items—carpets, furniture, fabrics, cookware, raincoats—use chemicals that resist water, stains, microbial growth, odors, or wrinkles. These include the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) often called “forever chemicals.” The LOLA POP™ Detox Method teaches commonsense strategies to reduce exposure to this category across the home.

Colored Products

HOUSEHOLD REPEAT OFFENDER 5

Artificial colors and dyes appear in far more household items than just foods. Using the LOLA POP™ Detox Method, you learn about exposures to harmful chemicals and heavy metals used in colored products—cosmetics, personal care, home textiles, clothing, toys, and art supplies.

Plastics

HOUSEHOLD REPEAT OFFENDER 6

Plastics are integrated into countless aspects of daily life. With growing evidence of microplastics and nanoplastics being detected throughout the human body, reducing lifetime exposure is a precautionary approach worth taking. The LOLA POP™ Detox Method helps you decrease plastics through changes that stick.

What a Sample Day Looks Like

The daily rhythm is designed to be sustainable inside an ordinary week.

Each day, you can expect:

  • A short email from Sophia
  • A daily audio message from Sophia (5–10 minutes, listenable while you make coffee, commute, or fold laundry) to help you choose how to make progress that day
  • The day’s menu of engagement options—Tweak, Stretch, and Plunge—that help you progress while respecting your day's available time and energy

Tweak is the smallest version of the day’s work. A single observation. A single moment of awareness. Five minutes.

Stretch is the fuller version. An exercise in your workbook. A scavenger hunt in one room. Fifteen to thirty minutes.

Plunge is the deepest version. A thorough application of LOLA POP™ through your bathroom, or laundry room. A deeper reading of a topic in A to Z of D-Toxing or suggested articles, or a deeper understanding of a topic through a Practical Nontoxic Living™ podcast episode. An hour or more, typically reserved for weekends or quieter days.

You choose your engagement level day by day based on what your week allows. Consistency, not intensity, is what changes behavior.

On Day 9, for example, you might be in the middle of the Self-Care Products week. The day's email and audio focus on personal care products specifically — what's in your medicine cabinet, what touches your skin most often, what you reach for daily. You select a Tweak, Stretch, or Plunge engagement based on your time and energy that day.

Time Investment

The program is designed to be flexible. Expect to invest anywhere from 15 to 30 hours across the forty days, distributed unevenly based on each participant’s life and home.

The daily rhythm: receive email, audio, and micro-actions each day. Your "homework" can take as little as five minutes for days that don't allow more. This is the minimum to keep momentum. But you'll have homework that can lead your home detox more thoroughly with about 20-30 minutes for the Detox Stretch, or even longer with the Detox Plunge.

The deep detox: practice LOLA POP™ during the 30-day Detox stage. You'll probably spend 1-4 hours hunting for the Household Repeat Offender™ over the allocated days for each Household Repeat Offender™, depending on how many you have and how you choose to prioritize your efforts.

The three private 60-minute sessions with Sophia: schedule these upon enrollment. More frequent communications with Sophia are available to you via the Ruan Living app.

The six masterclasses: learn from these pre-recorded classes, released across the Design stage. Approximately 45 minutes each, you can watch them at your convenience.

The time required varies by the size of your home, the number of products in your household, and how much time and energy you can invest. Someone in a small apartment with limited routines moves through the program faster than someone in a larger home with a fuller household. The program guides each participant to prioritize what matters most within her own reality—rather than trying to address every product at once.

The Three Private Sessions with Sophia

Three 60-minute video sessions are included. Each has a specific role.

Kickoff (Day 1 window). Intake, baseline review, personalized priorities for your specific home and situation.

Midpoint (around Day 16). Progress review, troubleshooting, course-correcting where it is needed.

Completion (Day 40 window). Results review, transition into the year-long D-Tox Academy™ relationship, forward-looking roadmap.

Upon acceptance to a 40-Day Home Detox cohort, you'll receive instructions on how to schedule your three, private sessions.

Sessions draw on Sophia’s nearly two decades of Practical Nontoxic Living™ research and the household decisions she has made in her own family of five.

Your Practical Nontoxic Living™ Playbook

Across the forty days, the workbook exercises build into a customized reference book—your Practical Nontoxic Living™ playbook. It is the most durable artifact of the program.

By Day 40, your playbook contains:

  • Your baseline assessment from Day 1
  • Your 40-day roadmap
  • Instructions for applying the LOLA POP Detox Method
  • Your ten workbooks
  • Your vetted shopping lists, by category
  • Your safer-alternative substitutions, with notes on what you tested and what you kept
  • Your Love Test results—what you chose to keep despite the risks, and why
  • Your Practical Wisdom notes—the imperfect choices you made peace with
  • Your forward-looking roadmap for the year ahead
  • The average toxicity rating of your Household Repeat Offenders from before and after the program so that you can always remember and celebrate your progress

The playbook arrives in two forms: digital (PDF, accessible through the Ruan Living app and portal) and printed (ten workbooks in a custom binder, shipped as part of the Ultimate Home Detox™ Kit).

You return to it for years. It evolves as your life evolves.

Who This Is For

The 40-Day Home Detox™ is designed for someone who wants to do the work themselves. It is not a service performed for you. Learning the LOLA POP™ Detox Method is what makes you adept at navigating toxic exposures over a lifetime—at home, when traveling, and when encountering new products and environments.

It is best suited for:

  • People preparing for fertility, IVF, pregnancy, or pregnancy after loss
  • People navigating a recent diagnosis, an upcoming surgery, or post-surgical recovery
  • People caring for an adult child, aging parent, or partner whose biology is especially vulnerable
  • People who treat environmental load as a healthspan input
  • People who want a structured method rather than scattered tips
  • People who want a tangible Practical Nontoxic Living™ playbook to celebrate their progress and remind them how to continue choosing lower-toxic products and approaches
  • People who appreciate research-grounded reasoning over absolute claims

It may not be the right fit for:

  • Someone who doesn’t want to change their purchasing behavior
  • Someone who doesn’t want to learn about their sources of toxicity
  • Someone who is not ready to commit five to fifteen minutes a day for forty consecutive days

If you recognized yourself in the first list, the application is the right next step.

If You’re Applying on Behalf of Someone You Love

The program is designed for one accountable person—and the household benefits from the work that person does.

If you are the person doing the work, the program is structured for you.

If you are applying on behalf of someone else—an adult daughter preparing for IVF, an aging parent navigating a diagnosis, a partner in recovery—the application invites you to describe that. The work is structured the same way regardless of who set the precipitating moment in motion. The home that gets shaped is the one the participant lives in.

If multiple motivated individuals in the same household each want their own engagement, each is treated as a separate participant with a separate application.

What Past Participants Have Said

“I was asked by my functional medicine doctor to detox my cleaning and personal care products, but had no idea where to start. In a month’s time I was able to completely overhaul my products with confidence that the new ones I chose were vastly less toxic. The 40-Day Home Detox™ was vital in my pursuit of health and wellness for myself and my family.”

— Ruan Detox Warrior™

Individual experiences vary.

What the Investment Covers

The 40-Day Home Detox™ is $5,500. The investment reflects:

  • Three private 60-minute video sessions with Sophia
  • Forty days of structured daily guidance—email, audio, micro-actions, scavenger hunts
  • Six masterclasses with named experts in complementary fields
  • The Ultimate Home Detox™ Kit (retail value approximately $1,500), assembled by Sophia
  • One full year of D-Tox Academy™ membership for continued refinement across ten pillars of Practical Nontoxic Living™
  • The Practical Nontoxic Living™ playbook you’ll return to for years

The program is offered in cohorts throughout the year. Spots are limited.

If the program’s investment requires alternative arrangements—whether for timing, affordability, or other circumstances—the application allows you to propose what would work for you.

Cohort Schedule

The 40-Day Home Detox™ runs in cohorts throughout the year. The September 2026 cohort accepts applications through August 16, 2026 at 11:59pm EST. If admitted, you select your own start day at any point in September 2026—so the program begins when it fits your life, not when a cohort calendar dictates.

Future cohorts are announced via the LOLA POP™ Detox Method email subscriber list.

Spots are limited and filled in the order applications are accepted.

Before You Apply

A short checklist for the moment before you click through.

  • Know which cohort you’re applying for. The September 2026 cohort accepts applications through August 16, 2026 at 11:59pm EST.
  • Know your shipping address. The Ultimate Home Detox™ Kit ships before your selected start day.
  • Know your Why. The application invites you to describe your situation, what brought you to the program, and what you most want to address. Sophia reads each application personally.
  • Know that you can request a consultation with Sophia before enrolling if you want to discuss whether the program is the right fit, or how to coordinate with a physician already involved in your care. Sophia may also request a consultation as part of the application process.

The application takes about 10–15 minutes to complete.

What Happens After You Apply

Sophia reads each application personally.

You’ll hear back within 3–5 business days with one of the following: a request for a brief consultation call with Sophia to discuss whether the program is the right fit, an acceptance with next steps for your September start, or—if the program isn’t the right fit for your situation right now—a thoughtful note suggesting where to start instead.

Acceptance is rolling within the cohort window until spots fill.

If Circumstances Change

Our default response to changing circumstances is to defer the program to a future cohort at no additional charge. Most participants who encounter unexpected life events prefer to pause and return when ready, and we’d rather have you complete the program at the right moment than at the wrong one.

If deferral is not the right path, the following refund policy applies.

  • Before the Ultimate Home Detox™ Kit ships. Full refund of the program fee less a $350 administrative fee.
  • After the kit ships. No refund. The participant retains continued access to the digital program materials and the year-long D-Tox Academy™ membership, and may defer to a future cohort if circumstances require.

After Day 40

The 40-Day Home Detox™ is the beginning of a longer practice, not a closed event.

You become a Ruan Detox Warrior™. Each person who completes the program earns this title—a marker of the work you’ve done and the lens you’ve built.

You enter the D-Tox Academy™ year. Within three months after the program ends, each Ruan Detox Warrior™ activates the year-long D-Tox Academy™ membership. This is where the practice continues to refine—through the shopping guides, the downloadable DIY nontoxic cleaning recipe cards and labels, and the Practical Nontoxic Living™ Library.

Your home keeps evolving. Practical Nontoxic Living™ is not a state you reach. It is a way of approaching your home, your habits, and your decisions that deepens over time as your life evolves.

Common Questions

What happens between when I apply and when I’m accepted?

Sophia reads each application personally and responds within 3–5 business days. The response will be a request for a brief consultation call, an acceptance with next steps, or—if the program isn’t the right fit right now—a thoughtful note suggesting where to start instead.

What if I miss a day?

No problem. The program is designed with catch-up days built in. You can also return to any content you missed at any time during the program.

Can I access the program on my phone?

Yes. The Ruan Living app gives you full access to daily audio guidance, content, and your workbook progress wherever you are.

Do I keep access to the materials after the 40 days?

Yes. You retain continued access to the digital program materials, and the physical kit is yours to keep. The D-Tox Academy™ membership can be activated within three months after the program ends and runs for one year from activation.

Can I share materials with my partner or family?

The program is structured around one accountable person. Workbook exercises and the private sessions are tailored to that participant. The household benefits from the changes the participant makes—but materials, sessions, and the application are designed for one person, not a household.

If multiple motivated individuals in the same household each want their own engagement, each is treated as a separate participant with a separate application.

How does the program coordinate with my physician?

The 40-Day Home Detox™ can fit alongside physician-directed care, if you and your physician would like to collaborate. The application invites you to describe your situation and to request a consultation with Sophia if you would like one.

The 40-Day Home Detox™ is an educational program in toxic exposures from the consumer products you buy and behavioral changes that can reduce your toxic exposures. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

What happens if I need to defer?

Email [email protected] to discuss. Deferrals are accommodated for documented life circumstances at no additional charge. Your spot moves to a future cohort.

Is the program available internationally?

Yes! The digital program is accessible anywhere with internet; the physical kit can be shipped internationally. Shipping fees may apply.

More questions? Email [email protected]. We’d love to hear from you.
